  13. I have been the miserable owner of a 28.8 Megahertz CruiseCard since a 
  14. few months ago.  ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ONE BUY THIS MODEM!  I have had 
  15. great difficulty faxing with it, and NO SUPPORT at all has been 
  16. forthcoming from Megahertz.

  18. The problem is that the modem fails to connect with about 20% of fax 
  19. machines.  It dials, handshakes, but does not send.  When I try the same 
  20. experiment with either of 2 other modems (Global Village or Magnum) on 
  21. the same phone line and to the same fax machines, it works fine!  The 
  22. failure is 100% repeatable in my experience.

  24. Megahertz has an e-mail address for tech support.  I have used this at 
  25. least twenty times, and NEVER HAD A REPLY FROM TECH SUPPORT!  It is 
  26. abundantly clear that messages posted to megahertz@techsupport.com are 
  27. infrequently, if ever, replied to.  The last time I tried was in January, 
  28. when out of exasperation I sent the same message 10 times!!  No reply.

  30. I have spent hours on the phone with Megahertz, often at my expense, to 
  31. diagnose this problem, but they are unable to say with certainty what is 
  32. wrong.  Part of the problem is that their hardware is made for PC, and 
  33. their support for Mac is awful.  For instance, if you have a PC and the 
  34. ROM of the modem needs to be flashed, this can be done at once via their 
  35. BBS.  They do not offer this service for Mac, but offer instead to 
  36. exchange your modem by DHL.  Cost for this service: $35!!  And if it does 
  37. not work, too bad, since it is not refundable!  You, the user, pick up 
  38. the tab for what would otherwise be unnecessary if Megahertz supported 
  39. Mac equivalently to PCs.

  41. This is a poor product, with miserable support for Mac users.  I CANNOT 
  42. ADVISE STRONGLY ENOUGH THAT YOU DO NOT BUY A MEGAHERTZ MODEM FOR 
  43. MACINTOSH!  I would be very interested to know if other users out there 
  44. have this SAME problem (no general problems, please), since I am 
  45. contemplating legal action under the British Columbia Sale of Goods Act 
  46. against Megahertz.
